After Exposure of an Impacted Tooth

Please refer to general post-operative instructions (except in reference to gauze use) in additional to the following instructions:

Do not disturb the wound. If surgical packing was placed, leave it alone. The pack helps to keep the tooth exposed. If it gets dislodged or falls out, do not get alarmed it was only intended to be temporary.  Please schedule an appointment with your orthodontist within a week of the surgery to have the chain engaged. If you did not have a bracket and chain placed you may still need to see the orthodontist to find out your next step. If a bracket or gold chain was placed do not use gauze in the surgical site instead you can use a tissue to wipe your lips if there is any bleeding. Bleeding is minimal when brackets with gold chains are placed.
